Abstract

This paper addresses the portrayal of women's roles in Nigerian video films. The data were generated and analysed through content analysis categories adapted and truncated from Smith's (1999) content categories so as to achieve at least two broad goals. First, it provides an avenue for understanding how each industry portrays males and females, and perhaps more importantly, understand the similarities if any among the industries

, as well as discuss the major types of women representation among the varieties of Nigerian video films. Secondly, it specifically serves as a tool for investigating how each industry, each film and also how all the films combined, represent women
