Abstract

Flooding is a natural disaster that impacts people more than any other worldwide. The focus of this programme is on community flood resilience and how best to
select and implement adaptation strategies for the future. A resilient community has the capacity to better withstand a disaster and its social, economic, and environmental consequences. The ultimate goal of this approach is to provide insights and guidance to stakeholders to effectively address the urban flood challenges through action research and capacity building.

Author Biographies

Shorna Broussard Allred

Shorna Broussard Allred is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources at Cornell University. She is also serves as the Associate Director of the Human Dimensions Research Unit in the Department of Natural Resources.

Amy Kuo Somchanhmavong

Amy Kuo Somchanhmavong serves as Associate Director of Service Learning for the Cornell Public Service Center. She has served in a variety of capacities, and has led K-12 programming, the PSC Scholars Program, the Cornell Civic Leaders Fellowship Program, the Engaged Cornell Speaker Series and much more.
